How does Retro clothing Develop?
Retro means a fashion that reminds one of the past. In recent days
clothes fashions that were prevalent in the past especially in 1960s and
1980s are making their way back into the fashion world as retro
clothing. People like retro clothing for very many reasons.

Some people prefer the materials that were used during that period
and the comfort that they ensured. Others prefer the design and styles
of those periods probably because they feel personally nostalgic about
those times and are looking for some way to bring that era back into
their lives. There are still others who are into retro or vintage
clothing styles just because they want to look and feel different.
Whatever the reason, retro clothing is back in style and in a very
big way. Whether it is children’s clothing, men’s wear or clothing for
the modern girl, retro clothing has captured the imagination of people
all over the world. One of the reasons that retro clothing has got the
imagination of people is the constant reminders to them shown in movies
and television serials that are based in those eras. Such movies or
serials are extremely popular because they are quite often based on
ideas that originate from happenings in those times and which had caught
the popular imagination.
So
there is some linkage to reality, and once those serials or movies gain
popularity, everything that the hero or heroine or people from that era
wear gets into the imagination of viewers and create a new fashion all
by itself.
It is quite accepted for ladies and gentlemen to approach their
dressmakers with still photographs of those popular media happenings and
ask for them to reproduce what their idol is wearing. Dressmakers are
always eager to start new trends because every time one becomes popular
it simply means more business for them.
It does not take very long for the manufacturers of mass apparel to
get into the act once they see a trend. And then by the sheer weight of
the numbers they produce, the myriad outlets that they have, and the big
budgets they have for advertising, the new retro clothing becomes a hit,
which in turn continues to produce clones, till it looks like everyone
around is wearing retro clothing.
Designers also get into the act and latch on to retro clothing, make
subtle changes in cut and materials to enhance the looks of the retro
clothing which further gives rise to even more fashions that
manufacturers eagerly lap up, because they need to have a constant
variety in their offerings to keep the market going. The extreme
consumerism that is now a part of daily life in most developed nations
has led to the need of fashion conscious people to always look for newer
and newer things to be one up on their counterparts.
And finally the manufacturers of materials get into the act. They
research the materials that were in use during those periods and find
out the reasons why they were so popular. Was it the comfort, the way
the cloth draped, or was it the colors? Once they have found

what they think is the reason they proceed to make such
materials themselves making subtle changes that can attract the clothing
industry. And then there they are also getting on to the band wagon of
retro clothing and making their own contribution to it, and of course
their own share of the profit from the retro clothing as well.
So is retro clothing a real new fashion, or is it just a hype of the
marketers of today. One never knows, but fashion has a tendency to
repeat every twenty or thirty years, and the retro clothing of today may
also go into oblivion, and get replaced by another which may become just
as popular. But it is quite likely that today’s fashion may be replaced
by copies of another generation and continues to attract the label of
retro clothing.
